Chapter 2

Chapter 2: Entity Relational Model (Part 1)

Before our lecture started, our class followed one of the Japanese traditions of putting the shoes reversely and neatly. This is a starting point of changing our bad habits of putting shoes everywhere. As you can see below, we tend to apply new things within ourselves.

Moving on, now we are on Chapter 2. This chapter has two part which is Part1: Entity Relational Model and Part2: Entity Relationship Model. Both of this part are almost same, the difference between Part1 and Part2 is ERM components only have Entity, Attributes and Relationship while ERD have Entity, Attributes, Relationship and Connectivity.

Simple Entity Relational Model (ERM)

Entity Relational Model is a conceptual model that represents components in system graphically. Types of entity is Tangible, Conceptual, Active, Permanent and Volatile. ER Model is the constructs and conventions used to create a model of the user data. The results are documented in an entity relationship diagram. Relation keys have 3 which is Candidate key, Primary key and Foreign key. The function each key as below:
  1. Candidate key - An attribute or group of attributes that identifies a unique row in a relation. One of the candidate keys is chosen to be the primary key.
  2. Primary key - Any of the candidates that is selected to be the key or an attribute that uniquely identifies each row in a relation.
  3. Foreign key - An attribute in one table whose values must match the primary key in another table or whose must be null.
This is an example of an ERM answer from a complicated question.

We did an ERM exercise given by Madam Shamsiah to sharpen our mind and brain. The activities have done by group and have a lot discussion among members. After that, we were questioned with what we have learnt from the subtopic on that day. As usual when 10 minutes before our class ended, we will play Kahoot games. This app gives the author a freedom of putting questions that will be answered by the contestants that joined his or her server. It's a quiz-type of game that is easily usable for modern education.
